The Kemptville Players Incorporated (KPI), the longest running theatre group in North Grenville, is committed to increasing awareness of amateur theatre through our theatrical productions and support of community events. We encourage new members, and support existing members, to develop their theatrical skills while providing opportunities for creativity and camaraderie.
Kemptville Players was founded as St. James Players 40 years ago (1967). The Players have produced about two full-length productions each year, and numerous small skits for the hospital, local scouts and guides, and have also participated in fund raising and community parades. The Players are a not-for-profit organization of volunteers, but have incorporated for insurance and other legal matters.
About 10 years ago, a community choir was formed, drawing some of the Players to join, and the Players continue to lend their expertise in lights, costumes, makeup and set construction to the community choir. Here is more information on the North Grenville Community Choir.
About nine years ago, the North Grenville Arts and Culture Council (NGACC, also known as North Grenville Arts Guild) was formed, and the Players have been an active participant in this umbrella organization, whose mandate is to showcase and support the talents of the arts, performing arts, and cultural groups in our community. Here is more information on NGACC.
Heading in a new direction, the Players have written and produced two murder mystery plays for dinner theatre (and have successfully taken them on the road).
- All members of the cast and crew are paid-up members of KPI. (If you wanna play, you gotta pay!) However,
volunteers for one or two shows in the run are not asked to become members, but will not have their names in the programme.
- KPI creates a safe, supportive and focused space for members to work their craft.
- All members support and help fellow actors and crew when and where possible.
- Cast and crew show up for rehearsals, as scheduled. Missing a rehersal is unacceptable, without a good reason (such as family or work emergency). If you will miss a rehearsal, advise the director or assistant.
- Cast and crew arrive for rehearsals on time. (Show up 15 minutes early so you're ready to go at the start of rehearsals.)
- Props, costumes and sets are treated with respect at all times. (Its hard to return damaged goods!)
- Conflicts between production members must be brought to the attention of the director and the producer. A resolution will be found at their discretion, in good faith.
- Respect and kindness will be demonstrated to the cast and crew at all times.
- This is not work; this is art. The creative process is pleasurable, enjoyable and mutually rewarding.
